Maersk Line links up with both CMA CGM and Hamburg Süd

Copenhagen: CMA CGM and Maersk Line have signed a cooperation agreement on the latter's new service connecting North Asia to the US West Coast. Beginning April, the service will deploy five 4000teu vessels providing a weekly connection between Kwangyang and Pusan in Korea, Kobe, Shimizu, Nagoya and Yokohama in Japan and Los Angeles and Oakland on the US West Coast ports.

The service will take only 14 days to transit from Korea to the US West Coast, and 10 days from Japan.

"This new service between Japan and North America reinforces the group's already strong presence in China", said Jean-Philippe Thenoz, vice-president North America Lines at CMA CGM. "It also enhances our coverage of the Japanese market, where the group just opened a new agency - CMA CGM (JAPAN) K.K. - as a symbol of its commitment to developing its activities in the archipelago."

The Danish operator has also signed a vessel sharing agreement with Germany's Hamburg Süd to establish a weekly service from Australia/New Zealand to the East Coast of North America.

Subject to regulatory approval the two lines plan to deploy twelve 2,800teu vessels (six by each carrier) and a 530 capacity reefer plug on the route by the end of May early June 2008. The vessels will call at: Auckland (New Zealand), Sydney (Australia), Melbourne (Australia), Port Chalmers (New Zealand), Tauranga (New Zealand), Auckland (New Zealand), Manzanillo (Panama), Cartagena (Colombia), Savannah (US), Philadelphia (US), Tilbury (UK), Bremerhaven (Germany), Antwerp (Belgium), Philadelphia (US), Savannah (US), Balboa (Panama), Auckland (New Zealand).

The North Europe leg (Transatlantic/Europe and Europe/Oceania/Europe) of this service will only be offered by Hamburg Süd whereas Maersk Line will maintain its present service from Oceania to North Europe via Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia.

This new service will replace the existing Hamburg Süd Trident
Service and the current Maersk Line Oceania Service to the US East
Coast.  [27/03/08]
