Maersk to upgrade two India services

Mumbai: Maersk Line has revealed plans to upgrade its MECL1 and MECL2 services that cover the trade between the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent and the United States East Coast, writes news source Journal of Commerce. "The schedule adjustments will improve transit times and broaden service coverage," the Danish carrier said in a statement.

The new MECL1 port rotation is Jebel Ali, Port Qasim, Nhava Sheva, Salalah, Newark, New Jersey, Charleston, South Carolina, Norfolk, Virginia, Newark, and Jebel Ali, commencing from Newark on June 7.

The new MECL2 rotation is Chennai, Colombo, Salalah, Aqaba, Port Said, Algeciras, Newark, New Jersey, Savannah, Georgia, Houston, Texas, Norfolk, Virginia, Algeciras, Port Said, Djibouti (fortnightly call), Jebel Ali, and Colombo, commencing from Norfolk on June 1.

Maersk said the service enhancements would also help provide direct coverage between the U.S. Gulf and Egypt through its MECL2 calls at Houston and Port Said, with a transit time of 17 days on the route.

In addition, there would be additional feeder connections via Port Said to the East Mediterranean markets, including Mersin, Israel, Lebanon and Alexandria.  [02/06/09]
