Malaysian domestic line MTT Shipping is planning to expand its West-East Malaysia trade with another two vessels to add to the five currently operating.

The acquisition are still at the planning stage, local reports quoted MTT Shipping managing director Ooi Lean Hin as saying. The company is looking at modern and more economical vessels similar to its recently purchased fifth vessel, the 1,200-teu MTT Port Klang which it bought for $6.2m.

Ooi said the company was still assessing market demand before deciding on the purchase, however he added that trade between Sabah, Sarawak and peninsula Malaysia has expanded tremendously in the last few years.
