Marunda port to begin construction in 2014

Marunda port to begin construction in 2014
Jakarta: The Marunda international port in North Jakarta looks like it has been cleared to begin construction in 2014, according to local media reports.

Plans for the Marunda special economic zone and accompanying port have been bandied about since 2008 but have been stalled by political wrangling.

Sattar Taba, the president director of Nusantara Bonded Zone (PT KBN), was quoted as saying the project had already received approval from the Jakarta Legislative Council early in 2011 and was now just awaiting approval from the governor, with construction slated for 2014 to 2017. Estimated investment to begin development is around IDR1.2trn with total investment billed at IDR18trn.

The 436.8-hectare special economic zone will also have an industrial centre, a container storage area and other industrial facilities. The project is to be developed as a joint venture between the central government, the Jakarta government and PT KBN. However, to date financing for the special economic zone had been disbursed from Jakarta's 2011 budget, but the central government and PT KBN have yet to contribute their share.
