The addition of HICT port strengthens MCC’s commitment in enabling new trade opportunities for its customers and the region, Maersk’s intra-Asia line said in a press release.
“We strongly believe in the future growth of North Vietnam. By calling HICT with three weekly services, we can offer our customers the widest coverage from the start which is expected to provide them more opportunities for business all over the world," said MCC Transport cco Naresh Potty.
HICT is the first terminal in North Vietnam with a deep draft of 14m allowing large container vessels to call the port directly. This development will not only boost the economic growth of the region but will also open business opportunities from/to the rest of Asia.
MCC was the first to call HICT on May 23 and with positive feedback from customers and stakeholders, MCC decided to officially add HICT to its weekly services NV4, SE1 and SE2 to boost trade between Vietnam, China and rest of Southeast Asia.
First calls of the NV4 and SE2 services are due in at HICT on June 27 and the first call of the SE1 is on July 7.
The former two are dedicated north and central Vietnam feeder services into Hong Kong and Singapore and Tanjung Pelepas respectively while the third service covers southern Indochina ports Ho Chi Minh, Laem Chabang and Sihanoukville to feeder into Maersk’s Southeast Asian hubs in Singapore and Tanjung Pelepas.
HICT’s strategic location connects cargos to most inland waterways and coastal roads to Quang Ninh and the northern provinces of Vietnam. Also, MCC expects a smoother operation with HICT as the port’s favourable location will lessen the impact of tidal fluctuation or seasonal draft limitation. All these make HICT not only beneficial for customers but also for the continued growth of North Vietnam.
