Mitsui forms Chinese engine jv

Shanghai: A ship diesel engine joint venture between China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and Japan's Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd has been opened in the Shanghai Lingang Heavy Equipment Industry Park, which its founders claim is the largest such faxcility in China. The new Shanghai CSSC Mitsui Diesel Engine Co, Ltd covers an area of 400,000 sq m and involves a total investment of 2.27bn yuan. A secure supply of domestically constructed engines has been deemed one of the critical necessities China will need as it aims for the top global shipbuilding spot by 2015. [21/09/06]
