MOL, MES to develop advanced vessel monitoring and support system

MOL, MES to develop advanced vessel monitoring and support system
Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES) have partnered to develop the next-generation vessel monitoring and support systems for commercial applications.

The partnership will tap on MOL’s operational experience and technologies, and the experience of MES as a shipbuilding with advanced technologies, ICT and system integrators.

The vessel monitoring and support system will be based on real time data from navigation and machinery, acquired by data collecting units, with short-cycle data and big data being analysed from various aspects.

MOL believes that this technology will boost the group’s effects to achieve the prevention of marine incidents and prevention of equipment failure, as well as optimise vessel routing through the integration of ICT related components such as artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, MOL and MES have also participated in an autonomous ocean transport system R&D project under Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation and Tourism. The purpose of the project is to establish road maps toward autonomous vessels, which is expected to deliver safer and more efficient marine transportation.
