Tokyo: Mitsui O.S.K. Lines today announced the opening of its new Safety Operation Supporting Centre (SOSC) in line with the group's safe operation management structure set out in December 2006. Based at MOL's Tokyo head office (picured), the SOSC will provide timely warnings and interactive communication to MOL vessels and other concerned parties to promote safe operation with around-the-clock weather monitoring. It is designed to ensure that the ships have the information needed to respond promptly and appropriately to any situation ranging from the recently occurring abnormal climatic conditions to the threat of global terrorism.
MOL President Akimitsu Ashida has stressed the company's dedication to improving safety in operations this year, following a series of accidents in 2006 involving their vessels Giant Step, MOL Initiative, Bright Artimis and Cougar Ace. [07/02/07]
