As LNG as a marine fuel continues to gain traction Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of its first LNG-powered tugboat Ishin.

The Ishin, which is to be the first LNG-powered tugboat in western Japan, was delivered by Kanagawa Dockyard on Wednesday. The tug was fuelled by LNG from Osaka Gas truck-to-ship LNG bunkering procedure in Sakai Senboku Port and will be used to escort large freighters calling at the port.

The vessel is part of a new business for MOL which is actively promoting the use of LNG as marine fuel both in Japan and internationally. It aims accumulate know-how on operating LNG-powered vessels through using the Ishin.
