Tokyo: Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has announced plans to launch a new service called Vietnam Hong Kong New Loop 3 (VH3) beginning March 24, thus upgrading its current container services within the region. The company, which has recently upgraded its logo (pictured), has attributed the upgrade to "booming cargo trade from, to, and within Asia" and will use capacity chartered from the Vietnam national shipping company Bien Dong Shipping, which currently offers joint services with MOL. The service, which will boast a total transit time of two days, is to follow the port rotation: Haiphong (Fri/Sun) - Hong Kong (Tue/Wed) - Haiphong (Fri/Sun).
The company is also to upgrade its service from/to ports in Japan, by connecting to the Japan/Hong Kong Straits route at the Hong Kong HIT terminal. The current RSK service (by a space charter from the RCL Company) is to be discontinued in May at which point it will be replaced by the new route. [23/03/07]
