The MPA inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IMarEST earlier this week with an aim to upskill and retain maritime talent in Singapore.
It will provide two routes for maritime professional with an MSc/BSc jointly offered by IMarEST and the Plymouth University in the UK via distance and online learning, and a Chartered Status under the IMarEST banner.
“MPA recognises the importance of continued education and training of our maritime professionals. This partnership will enhance our manpower development efforts as mapped out in the Sea Transport Industry Transformation Map,” said Quah Ley Hoon, chief executive of the MPA.
“We see continuing education as a necessary investment for individuals to upskill themselves to stay relevant in a maritime industry which is transforming rapidly.”
David Loosley, chief executive of IMarEST commented: “MPA has demonstrated a strong commitment to helping their employees develop their careers and to support them to obtain recognition for their skills and expertise. We are delighted to assist them through this win-win partnership that helps them keep pace with the changes in this sector.”
