Nelson Yeo to head up Keppel Philippines Marine

Manila: Keppel Philippines Marine Inc (KMPI) has appointed Nelson Yeo (pictured) as chairman of the board as well as of its associate Subic Shipyard & Engineering with effect from today. Yeo, currently executive director of Keppel Shipyard, takes over the new roles from Charles Foo, md (special projects) of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M), who has resigned as director of both companies. Foo, who has been credited with raising the safety standard at Keppel yards, had been chairman of KPMI and SSEI since November 1999,

Yeo has had a long history with Keppel and has also received various commendations by the Filipino government for aiding the development of that country.

Choo Chiau Beng, chairman of Keppel O&M, said, "I am confident that Mr Yeo, with the support of Mr Toh Ko Lin, the president of KPMI and the rest of the team, will take the Keppel Philippines yards to new heights. Looking ahead, demand for offshore floating production units and offshore support vessels will be sustained. Keppel Philippine yards are poised to take on more offshore support work in the form of repair and upgrading services, in addition to what it currently is already doing. However in view of increased competition from existing and new yards in China and Vietnam, Keppel Philippines have to remain highly competitive."

Meanwhile. Choo Chiau Beng is to moderate the opening conference session entitled 'The Asian Voice in World Shipping' at the Sea Asia event taking place in Singapore
April 2-4. Charles Foo will chair the morning session of the Technical Day on April 3, co-organised by ASMI (the Association of Singapore Marine Industries) and SNAMES (the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers of Singapore).
