Sydney: A joint venture between Indonesia's Meratus Line and Australia-based Ocean Shipping named 'Mocean Shipping' is to begin a new direct service between the ports of Darwin and Surabaya, reports the Northern Territory News
The dry bulk service, which will also call at Singapore as well as the Australian ports of Hedland and Dampier, is aimed at the transport of mining commodities - a market that is expected to see substantial growth over the next few years.
Mocean Shipping is expected to initially offer a 30-day service frequency along the route that will improve through the addition of extra vessels to meet demand. Although the service is expected to boost Asian exports to Australia in the first few months, Australian authorities are optimistic that they would soon be able to use the tonnage for increased exports from the country.
