New K Line ro-ro vessels to transport train carriages to the UK
K Line will carry Hitachi rail cars from Japan to the UK aboard its new ro-ro vessels under a contract signed with Hitachi Transport System Group.

he rail cars are to be shipped from Tokuyama-Kudamatsu in Japan to the East cost of the UK, where 92 trains are being built for the Intercity Express Programme (IEP).

K Lines new ro-ro vessels will have capacity to carry 7,500 vehicles and have been designed to better accommodate high and heavy cargoes; 10 of the ships are currently under construction in Japan with four to be delivered this year, four due in 2016 and two in 2017.

The IEP train car project will be served by some of these vessels from the delivery of the first ship in July this year, and will go on for "several years".
