New NYK book charts epic journey of a container across the globe

Hong Kong: A new book co-produced by Nippon Yusen Kaisha brilliantly portrays the blind side of globalization, namely the humble container. Author Richard Cook with photographer Marcus Oleniuk in tow spent much of last year tracking a single container as it made its way around the world both on land and at sea. The results are a stunning coffee table book that shows - perhaps more vividly than any other tome thus far on containerisation - how the forty foot box has changed trading patterns and made just about anything buyable. Following the box on a 200 day journey notching up more than 120,000 km in the process Cook and Oleniuk help explain how our shelves get stacked with ever greater choices from further and further afield. The snappily titled Around The World In Forty Feet illustrates how our world has become so much smaller with the advent of liner services. For more information contact [email protected] [20/08/07]
