Singapore: Sometimes in container shipping more is less. Amid extraordinarily high bunker fuel costs, the New World Alliance (APL, MOL and HMM) have announced they will run next year with nine ships on their Asia-Europe routes instead of the current eight.
The additional ship per service adds no extra capacity, the alliance said in a statement, but will allow the companies to operate their ships at a slower speed thus saving on fuel costs. [28/12/07]
