New Zealand christening for Hamburg Süd

New Zealand christening for Hamburg Süd

Auckland: A container vessel to be operated by Hamburg Süd on Asia - Australia/NZ service was christened earlier this month in Tauranga, New Zealand's largest port, the first time in the German company's 135-year history it had conducted a naming ceremony in that country. The "Cap Palliser" is one of a series of five identical 1,819 TEU charter vessels owned by the Claus-Peter Offen shipping company that are to be deployed by Hamburg Süd on the trade.

Sponsor of the "Cap Palliser", named after the southernmost point of New Zealand's North Island, was Mary Goff, wife of the New Zealand Minister of Defence, Trade, Corrections, Disarmament and Arms Control, and Associated Minister of Finance, Hon. Phil Goff. Also present at the naming were Dr August Oetker, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Hamburg Süd Group; Dr Klaus Meves, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd; and Claus-Peter Offen, President and Owner of Reederei Claus-Peter Offen.  [07/02/08
