Ningbo to turn Meishan Port into a tax free zone

Shanghai: Ningbo City is planning to turn its Meishan Port into a major international logistics port, according to NewsTrack. It is seeking approval from the State Council to make the port a free trade zone.
The city is studying the feasibility of turning Meishan Port into a logistic centre. Meishan Island is a logistic port in southwestern Ningbo. It has a deep-sea coast line of 7km. It can be further established to provide transshipment, container berthing and dry bulk cargo shipping facilities.
Ningbo City Department of Transport deputy-official Sun Shi-guang said the city plans to invest RMB1 billion in the Meishan Port development project. Together with seven regional ports like Zhoushan Port, Meishan Port plans to form consolidated port group alliance. [24/07/07]
