NOL appoints new ceo to succeed David Lim

NOL appoints new ceo to succeed David Lim

Singapore: Dr Thomas Held has been chosen as new president and ceo of NOL Group, parent of container line APL and APL Logistics. The appointment follows what NOL describes as a worldwide search to find a replacement for David Lim, who announced his intention to stand down back in June. Lim will officially hand overt at the end of the month but has made himself available to assist his successor until year-end.

Held is a German national who most recently chaired Schenker AG, one of the world's leading providers of integrated logistics services, a role he gave last January following Schenker's acquisition of North America-based freight forwarder Bax Global. Schenker had achieved a twofold increase in revenues during his tenure.

'The NOL Board considers Thomas Held to be one of the world's outstanding transportation industry leaders ... (with) a second-to-none understanding of global logistics,' commented NOL chairman Cheng Wai Keung.

Held said he was excited to be joining NOL, calling APL 'one of the best performing businesses in the global shipping industry' and APL Logistics 'a formidable player.'

Separately, group deputy president Cedric Foo is to take on the additional role of chief financial officer from January 1, replacing current cfo Patricia Leung who has resigned and will leave NOL at year-end.  [25/10/06]
