Singapore: IM Skaugen boss Morits Skaugen has expressed “regret and sorrow” after a gas carrier owned by its Singapore subsidiary Norgas Carriers collided with an Indonesian ferry leaving eight missing.

The Norgas Cathinka collided with the ro-ro passenger ferry Bahuga Jaya near Merak in Indonesia 05-40hrs on Wednesday morning.

According to local reports the ferry sank following the collision and while over 100 passengers were rescued but eight were reported missing. The exact number of passengers on the ferry remains unknown as Indonesian domestic ferries often do not have accurate passenger manifests.

"I wish to personally place on record my regret and sorrow over this sad and unfortunate incident,” said Skaugen, ceo of the company.

"I also wish to offer my condolences to the families who have lost loved ones today and stress again that as a responsible ship owner for almost 100 years, it will be our company's absolute duty to discover the truth about how this happened.”
