Northport and the heart of darkness

Kuala Lumpur: Congo is keen to secure Northport (Malaysia) Bhd as a partner in developing the country's new ports, the port operating company said today.
In a statement, Northport said this was made known by Congolese Transport Minister Emile Qussoo when he visited the port here last Friday, heading a delegation of 30 senior officials.
He invited Northport to provide assistance and technical know-how in the development of Congo's new ports at Port Mandigo Kayes, about 40 kilometres from Point-Noire Port.
"We are truly impressed with the state-of-the-art infrastructure, excellent world-class facilities and services which have attracted so many global shipping lines to Northport," Qussoo said.
Northport's managing director and chief executive officer Basheer Hassan Abdul Kader welcomed the invitation for technical collaboration between the two ports, namely Point-Noire and Northport.
"We would be happy to provide and share of own experiences into making Point-Noire a modern gateway port of Congo," he said. [09/10/07]
