Singapore: Dredging of Northport in Port Klang will be completed by the end of the year to accommodate larger vessels, which will boost the volume of trade and container units handled, the Business Times reported.
Dredging work is now 80 per cent complete to deepen channels and wharves there from the current depth of 13.3m to 15m, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy said.
"Northport is being upgraded to accommodate bigger vessels so that Port Klang can remain competitive in this region," Chan told a news conference in Putrajaya yesterday after meeting the new Port Klang Authority (PKA) chairman Datuk Chor Chee Heung. [12/06/07]
