NYK and Knudsen invest in LNG carrier newbuilding pair
Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Knudsen Group are furthering their partnership by ordering two LNG carriers.

The two companies which have existing joint venture Knutsen NYK (KNOT) which owns and operates shuttle tankers, have agreed to jointly invest in two two 176,000 cu m LNG carriers on a 50:50 basis.

The vessels to be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries for delivery in the second half of 2016 will be chartered to Spanish energy company Gas Natural for a period of 20 years.

NYK has a fleet of 29 LNG carriers at present. “NYK will continue its efforts for stable, economical transport of LNG, which is increasing in demand throughout the world,” the company said.
