Canberra: NYK's handymax bulker Global Galaxy was among ten foreign flag ships detained last month by Australian Port State Control. The 2002-built vessel was held up for a few hours at the port of Newcastle after more than the permitted 15 ppm of oil was found in the ship's oily water separator. More serious was the case of the Siomar Enterprises (Greece) bulker, Island Skipper, which was held for 10 days after inspectors at Bunbury found sideshell plating cracks and wastage round a ballast tank on the 1984-built vessel.
