Tokyo: Nippon Yusen Kaisha has taken took delivery of a new 90,000dwt bulk carrier named Shin Sanyo Maru (pictured). The vessel, built by Oshima Shipbuilding, is the fourth in a series of wide bulk carriers with 12.9 meter shallow drafts commissioned from the yard. The ships will be used entirely to transport coal from countries such as Australia and Indonesia to Japan, for use in power stations and coal centres by the Chugoku Electric Power Company (CEPC). The vessel, currently in transit to the Australian port of Newcastle for its first voyage, was christened in the presence of NYK evp Yasushi Yamawaki as well as CEPC evp and director Shigeo Suehiro.
