NYK opens shipping agency in Pakistan

Karachi: The Singapore based subsidiary for Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) has established a regional shipping agency in Karachi, Pakistan. The company, named NYK Line Pakistan (Private) Ltd, was set up with a capital of 10m Pakistani rupees ($165,361) and began operations on August 20.

In a statement, the company said, 'The purpose of the establishment of this local company is to respond to increasing demand in this region. Pakistan is also known as the gate port to countries in central Asia, and this local company will allow us to better respond to customer needs in this region.'

NYK Line Pakistan is the Japan-based liner company's 13th regional shipping agent in Asia. The group operates approximately 740 major ocean vessels, including 140 containerships, 270 bulk carriers, 50 wood-chip carriers, 110 car carriers, 25 reefer carriers, 70 tankers, 20 LNG carriers, and three cruise ships.  [21/08/07]
