NYK Shipmanagement Training receives DNV accreditation

Singapore: NYK has revealed that it is the first Japanese maritime company whose shipmanagement training programme has received accreditation by key classificsation society Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The group's Singapore subsidiary NYK Shipmanagement (NYK SM), established last November, has received certificates for its VLCC cargo handling simulator product, bridge simulator product and its bridge resource management / bridge team management training course.

In a statement, the company said that the certification indicated "the content of education and training at NYK SM is above international standards".

NYK, which anticipates that its fleet will grow to 930 vessels by 2010, sponsors training in China, Croatia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Romania, and Russia for about 200 cadets every year. In September last year, NYK's training program for seafarers assigned to LNG carriers was accredited by DNV to be in accordance with LNG Shipping Suggested Competency Standards (SIGTTO Standards).  [25/05/07]
