Tokyo: Nippon Yusen Kaisha has secured a 16-year contract with Beijing-based Shougang Corporation to transport iron ore from Western Australia. The signing (pictured), on January 22, was attended by NYK md Susumu Kikuchi (left) and Shougang president and vc Wang Qinghai (right).
NYK will initially cover the route using its existing bulk carriers, but will use newly built bulk carriers from 2009. This is the first long term contract between the two companies which previously singed a one-year contract of affreightment to transport iron ore from Brazil to China. [25/01/07]
