Tokyo: Universal Shipbuilding Corporation's Tsu Shipyard in Mie Prefecture has delivered a new 200,000dwt Capesize bulker to leading Japanese shipowner Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK). The vessel, named SG Capital, will be engaged in a 15-year long-term contract for iron-ore transportation with Shougang Corporation of China. A total of 2m tons of iron ore ate slated for annual export from Western Australia Â
Guests at the naming ceremony (pictured) held at Tsu Shipyard, included Zhu Jimin, chairman of the Shougang Group, NYK vice president Hiromitsu Kuramoto, and NYK director, managing corporate officer Hidenori Hono, all of whom watched the ship set sail on its maiden voyage.
The NYK Group currently operates about 776 major ocean vessels including around 155 containerships, 286 bulk carriers, 55 woodchip carriers, 113 car carriers, 21 reefer carriers, 78 tankers, 30 LNG carriers, and three cruise ships. Its revenue in fiscal 2007 was about $26bn. [08/01/09]
