Beijing: China has placed a floating security cordon around the port of Qingdao where Olympic Games sailing events will be held, restricting the entry of cargo ships, limiting speeds and stepping up surveillance patrols, reports Reuters.
Passenger ships passing through the port were the subject of particularly close examination and safety checks. Xinhua news agency quoted Ministry of Transport spokesman He Jianzhong as saying.
A fleet of 62 patrol boats was in place on Wednesday before the sailing tournament from August 9 to 21, the agency stated. [06/08/08]
