Tokyo: An explosion yesterday at Japan-based IHI shipyard, formerly known as Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries, has killed one man and injured five others, reports Bloomberg. Although the cause of the explosion has yet to be determined, a spokesperson for the yard is reported to have confirmed that the blast took place at 1700 hours and that one of the injured workers is currently in a coma.
A local newspaper, Chunichi, has attributed the cause of the accident to the ignition of gas from corrosion-proof coating materials. [07/08/07]
