OOCL Yokohama named at Geoje Shipyard

Hong Kong: OOCL has christened the second vessel in its series of sixteen 4,578teu conatinerships, on order with Samsung Heavy Industries since 2004. The newbuilding, OOCL Yokohama, was christened yesterday at SHI's Geoje Shipyard in Korea.

"OOCL Yokohama belongs to our modern fleet of Panamax class vessel. It is designed to transit the Panama Canal from Asia to our important market in the US East Coast'" said CC Tung, OOIL chairman. "It is also very versatile and can be deployed in many markets such as Australia, Intra Asia and the Middle East and enables OOCL to deliver the exceptional, high-quality services required by our customers."

The vessel will be deployed under the AEA1 service, after its initial deployment in KTX1 service in the Intra-Asia region, providing a vital link between Asia and Australia.

The OOCL Yokohama will follow the port rotation: Kaohsiung - Hong Kong- Shanghai - Chiwan - Hong Kong - Sydney - Melbourne ?" Brisbane-Kaohsiung in a 35-day round trip.

The company has also named the first vessel in the same series this afternoon at the port of Kobe, Japan.

OOCL will operate a fleet of 18 Panamax vessels upon delivery of the 16 SHI-built vessels. It already operates two additional Panamax vessels delivered at end-2006 by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard.  [20/07/07]
