Karachi: Pakistan-based Associated Group (AG) has announced it expects to receive Pakistan's first ever Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) shipment in the third quarter of 2007. It plans to import the equivalent of 200 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas, which in the short term will be kept in a floating storage and re-gasification unit rented from US firm Excelerate Energy pending construction of dedicated LNG import facilities. The whole project requires an $80m investment, including construction of a jetty, terminal and re-gasification plant. A spokesperson for AG said the company was in talks with numerous agencies including the Port Qasim Authority for construction of the necessary infrastructure. Eventually imports equivalent to 400 mmcfd of gas are planned. [28/12/06]
