Pelindo III to build $257m container transport monorail
Infrastructure developments  at Pelabuhan Indonesia III's (Pelindo III) key East Java ports are continuing apace with the announcement of a plan this year to build a IDR2.5trn ($257m) automated container transporter with (ACT) construction company Adhi Karya that will connect Tanjung Perak Port and the new Teluk Lamong Port in Surabaya.

The monorail track system will transport containers on a 5.6 km  elevated track between the old and new ports, avoiding traffic congestion in the surrounding areas, according to local media reports. The system's capacity was not revealed. It would be the world's first monorail built for container transport.

Both state owned companies have completed a feasibility study covering financial, commercial, technical and legal aspects of the project and construction will begin in the next 12 months.
