According to local media reports, the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand-Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) has proposed that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) conduct a feasibility study to implement the project to boost intra-regional trade.
The RoRo vessel project, which would service the Belawan-Phuket-Penang and Malacca-Dumai routes, is however dependent on the privatisation of Penang Port and the feedback from the logistics and business community, IMT-GT Joint Business Council Malaysia chairman Faudzi Naim Noh was quoted as saying.
JICA would be in Penang by the end of the year to brief the relevant authorities and stakeholders on the project, which was proposed by Indonesia, while the feasibility study is being undertaken by the Asian Development Bank.
