Singapore: Australia's Perkins Shipping has announced that is plans to open a shipping agency in Singapore 'over the next few months', reports the Business Times. "Singapore has an important place in the history of Perkins as we have traded with the port in the past and we now have weekly shipping services between Darwin and Singapore," said executive director Paul Toussaint-Jackson.
The Darwin-headquartered company operates liner and on demand shipping services across the breadth of coastal north Australia and throughout Southeast Asia, with a trans-shipment service through Singapore to most locations worldwide.
"As our logistics business expands, we see the need to have our own office to manage our shipping agency work and local ship management and to provide logistics support for Perkins Project Services," he added. The office will be staffed by a group of eight people who may be recruited locally.
Perkins Shipping is also launching a project services unit in Perth that will provide freight forwarding support for major resource engineering projects including the transportation of mining equipment to isolated locations in the region. [18/02/08]
