Pertamina tanker spills fuel in Indonesian port

Pertamina tanker spills fuel in Indonesian port
A Pertamina-owned oil tanker sank at Ternate port in Indonesia's outer province of North Maluku on Wednesday after a rogue wave apparently caused it to slam into the side of a quayside building and rip a hole in its hull.

Local media quoted Bagus Handoko, the distribution manager of Pertamina’s Ternate depot, as saying the KM Patriot Andalan was anchored in the depot at the time.

The vessel was carrying 7,000 tons of fuel from Papua, and workers were able to unload 600 tons of petrol and diesel fuel before the rest gushed into the sea. The crew managed to escape unharmed.

He added Pertamina was now trying to contain the oil spill from spreading further, and to neutralize what has already been spilled, Financial losses from the incident have not been estimated.
