Hong Kong: Somali pirates have attacked an oil tanker some 1,000 nautical miles off the coast - the furthest away yet, the EU's anti-piracy mission reports.
The Hong Kong-registered BW Lion, operated by the Sohmen-family controlled BW Group, managed to evade an attack by two fast skiffs, firing automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades, it says.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports suggest pirates have seized a ship carrying weapons. [09/10/09]
