Among the various terminals, Sri Lanka Ports Authority’s (SLPA) state-owned Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) also saw record 20.6% growth in transshipment volumes for the first half, with 935,848 teu handled compared to 776,002 teu in the first half of 2017.
The Port of Colombo expects to hit a target of 7m teu for the full year. Sri Lanka Ports and Shipping Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has been reported as saying that the port would make fresh initiatives to promote itself internationally and attract more of the liner alliances, along with all its stakeholders.

SLPA had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the terminal operators at the port, including state-owned JCT, the John Keells, and AP Moller Group-led South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) and the China Merchants Group-controlled Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT) to collectively promote the Port of Colombo.

This means, we have to go beyond the partisan approach of promoting our terminals to protect the Port of Colombo.”
