PSA's VTE expands capacity

PSA's VTE expands capacity

Genoa: Voltri Terminal Europa (VTE), 100% owned by PSA's Italian arm PSA Sinport, has taken delivery of a ninth quay crane. The super-post panamax crane, built in Italy by Reggiane Cranes and Plants, can reach 18 rows across and is of low height profile due to the adjacent airport. Another identical crane is expected in September, which together with the addition of four RTGs towards year-end will lift installed capacity to around 1.5m teu from the current 1.3m teu. VTE traffic is expanding rapidly and in June saw a 23% rise over the same month in 2005, with first half traffic up 13%. Last year's throughput totalled 860,000teu and the terminal hopes to pass 1m teu this year. VTE's total design capacity is 2m teu, meaning it can offer customers real growth potential rather than mere 'topping up' of the existing limit, PSA Sinport officials point out.  [31/07/06]
