Doha - Qatar Petroleum's joint venture gas-to-liquids plant with South Africa based Sasol is expected to begin shipments this week. The $1bn venture, named Oryx GTL, currently produces approximately 9,000 barrels per day of products including synthetic diesel, naphtha using natural gas as its feedstock. When running at full capacity, it is capable of producing up to 34,000 barrels per day. Qatar Petroleum has a 51% stake in the Ras Laffan Industrial City- based venture, while the remainder of the company is owned by Sasol. [26/04/07]
