Qingdao: As many as 800 delegates are expected to flock to the Shangri-La Hotel in Qingdao on November 12 and 13 for the latest installment of the COSCO organised World Shipping Summit.
This year's theme is "Changing Priorities". As well as regular speaker, Capt Wei Jiafu from COSCO (pictured), delegates can expect to hear from the heads of BIMCO, NYK, "K" Line, Yang Ming, Sinotrans, Seaspan and HOSCO among a stellar speaking line up that underscores COSCO's assertion that this event, into its seventh year, is the "Davos of shipping". One of the most anticipated speeches will be given by Ma Weihua, the president and ceo of China Merchants Bank.
Social activities include a trip to the port, one of China's largest, a tour of the city and a welcome dinner on November 11.
As a media partner Seatrade will be distributing its regular China special - a dual language publication with a special focus on Qingdao. Seatrade's chairman, Chris Hayman, will present a paper at the event on how the shipping media reacted to the downturn. [12/10/09]
