Railways to begin building freight corridors this year

New Delhi: Construction on the dedicated eastern and western freight corridors will start in the upcoming fiscal, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad announced while presenting the Railway Budget 2008-09 in the Lok Sabha Tuesday.
"The works on the eastern freight corridor from Ludhiana (Punjab) to Dankuni, situated near Kolkata (West Bengal), and the Western corridor from Delhi to JNPT ( Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Maharashtra) have been sanctioned," Lalu Prasad said while presenting his fifth Railway Budget.
"Construction work on both these projects will commence in 2008-09," he added.
He also said feasibility studies are currently being undertaken for the north-south, east-west, east-south and south-south dedicated freight corridors.
The process of construction these corridors would be accelerated in 2008-09. [27/02/08]
