Regional Container Lines remains in the red for 2013

Regional Container Lines remains in the red for 2013
Thailand’s Regional Container Lines (RCL) remained in the red for 2013, although it lost less than it did a year earlier.

RCL reported a loss of THB1.65bn ($50.6m) for 2013 compared to a loss of THB1.93bn in 2012. The company said continued overcapacity contributed to the loss.

The intra-Asia and feeder box line said it lost THB939m in the fourth quarter of 2013 hit by provisions of THB722m for vessel impairment and THB155m for a onerous contract.

The line saw its annual volumes decrease by 6% to 2.09m teu, and by 10% in the fourth quarter to 495,167 teu.
