Rickmers Maritime buys four 13,100teu containerships

Singapore: Rickmers Maritime has become the first Singapore-listed shipping trust to own four 13,100teu container vessels, after it purchased them from the Polaris Shipmanagement Company through its trusteemanager Rickmers Trust Management (RTM). The vessels are scheduled for delivery from South Korea-based Hyundai Heavy Industries between August and November 2010.

The vessels, which are already fixed-rate time chartered to A.P. Møller-Maersk for 10 years each - with an option for a further 30 months, will increase Rickmers Maritime's current total contracted fleet capacity by 128% from 40,910teu to 93,310teu.

Thomas Preben Hansen, CEO of RTM said, "These mega-containerships perfectly fit our targeted asset portfolio and will allow Rickmers Maritime to establish itself as a major ship owner and operator in the world. This marks our first acquisition of vessels since our IPO three months ago and is a major step ahead in delivering on our growth strategy."

Based on HHI's new design, the double hulled vessels feature a length of 366 meters, breadth of 48.2 meters and a cargo carrying capacity of 140,530 metric tonnes.  [16/08/07]
