Singapore: Rickmers Maritime has announced that it has decided to register two of its container vessels - ITAL Festosa (pictured) and CMA CGM Onyx with the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS). "We have chosen to bring two of our vessels under the Singapore flag," said Thomas Preben Hansen, ceo of RTM. "Reflagging our vessels is not merely symbolic: Singapore is recognised as one of the world's leading maritime hubs and its renowned shipping industry offers a wide range of services ranging from ship building and terminals to the provision of finance and legal services.
"Furthermore, Singapore is a party to all major international maritime conventions on safety and pollution prevention. It is for these reasons that we strongly believe in operating our business out of this city-state. We are indeed very proud to fly the Singapore flag," he adds.
The ITAL Festosa, under RTM operation since May 2007, was registered with the SRS this week, while the CMA CGM Onyx will be registered with the SRS upon its delivery from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company.
Rickmers Maritime is a Singapore business that currently operates a fleet of seven vessels in addition to a further 15 contracted or committed vessels. [03/12/07]
