Tokyo: The Russian port of Vladivostok and the Japanese port of Akita will be linked through a new container line operated by Japan-based Toyofuji Shipping, reports The Vladivostok News.
The new line is to begin service mid April and will initially operate on a monthly basis. It is expected to transport 700 automobiles out of Japan on its maiden run and will carry a cargo of timber on its return trip to Akita, Vladivostok port authorities said in a statement.
Russian authorities are optimistic that this agreement will pave the way for future interaction with neighboring Asian ports. [15/03/07]
