The Liberia-flagged vessel caught fire on Friday, while travelling from Singapore to Durban, resulting in major damage to the aftmost cargo hold and the fore superstructure. Owner Leonhardt & Blumberg has reported that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile all of the vessel’s crew survived unharmed, having been picked up by Hermann Buss-owned containership Donau Trader.
It is the second major fire on a container vessel in the Indian Ocean this month after the fore section of the stricken boxship MOL Comfort caught fire and later sank while being towed to Oman.
