Sandwich Plate System bites into Asian repair market

Sandwich Plate System bites into Asian repair market

Singapore: UK-based Intelligent Engineering is to open a Singapore office in order to better manage growing demand for its innovative SPS (Sandwich Plate System) Overlay solution in the Asian shiprepair market.

The fact that most Asian yards are full at present means there is 'exciting potential' for a product that allows repairs to be carried out faster and to a higher standard, says SPS Overlay director Dennis Welch.

Besides Singapore-based Keppel being IE's largest licensee, the company reports "significant forward repair bookings in China." In addition, it anticipates more SPS overlay business in Vietnam where the third in a series of similar tanker repairs has just been carried out by Vinashin for Italian owner Premuda, which involved the strengthening of the inner shell of a double-hulled aframax tanker built in Italy in the mid 1990s.  [14/06/07]
