New York-listed Scorpio said it had executed options for two MR product newbuildings at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and a letter of intent for four newbuildings at SPP Shipbuilding. The vessels are due to be delivered in the second and third quarters of 2014.
The shipowner also has options for eight further MR product tanker newbuildings and the firm contracts and options are all priced at $33m each.

“We are delighted by the support of our shareholders as we establish a leading position in the product tanker market. As we approach what is traditionally the strongest season, we are seeing stronger rates across all of our sectors."
